The ‘Double your Dollar’ initiative by Vodafone Fiji Ltd employee, Wati Duri, personal assistant to Vodafone Managing Director, Aslam Khan, brought in a sigh of relief to the Tailevu North Soqosoqo Vakamarama organization in terms of addressing pressing issues in their community.
Wati raised $550 towards Korovou Hospital Needs Project- to new supply of blankets, bed sheets and pillows to keep patients as current blankets and bed sheets have been in use for the past 7 years and are worn out. The amount was doubled by the Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation under its ‘Double your Dollar’ program and Sera Liga Saro, Vice President of Soqoqo Vakamarama, Tailevu was handed over $ 1,100 last week.
The Purpose of the fundraising was mainly to help cater for the well-being of patients admitted in Korovou Hospital and to aid in the provision of effective hospital services to the people of Tailevu North. “I feel that we are all part of a community and in some point in time, we feel the plight of others when we see how they have managed to survive in whatever way. The Korovou Hospital is one of the health centres in the country that desperately needs help and to see how villagers have travelled from far away villages in these 13 districts is really touching to me. I can imagine how they have to leave their homes in the early hours of the morning to bring their sick relatives to the Korovou hospital only
to find that there are scarce resources, shortage of proper beddings and blankets. This is when I thought to assist the Soqosoqo Vakamarama Tailevu North after hearing their plight,” said Wati.
Wati stated that she will continue to seek assistance from the Vodafone Foundation for wheelchairs, educational resources, address women and child issues by implementing village health and wellness policies in the area. Receiving the $1100 cheque, Sera Liga Saro said that the assistance is deeply appreciated by the Tailevu Community and will go a long way by providing comfort to the patients in Tailevu.
