“The U.S. Embassy in Suva announces the arrival of two American artists in Fiji who will conduct courses which will empower local artists to turn their skill into an entrepreneurial activity.
Jesse Roberts who is the founder and Creative Director of Rise Up International, has twenty years of experience in international and local youth empowerment education, community development, and arts related projects.
His art has been displayed in many countries around the world including: several Middle Eastern countries, Central America, India, Spain, and the US. Jesse was the creative director for the MAGIC Fashion Trade show in Las Vegas and prides himself in helping to discover new artists and empower people to find their creative voice through the arts.
Jason Graham is the lead singer of Mosley Wotta. Jason teaches art & music through a non-profit administered with Jesse and in local schools. He is a former slam poetry champion for the state of Oregon. He has performed at the Sundance Film Fest and has been featured on the PBS station OPB, “Great personality- teacher –musician”.
Jesse and Jason last week visited Labasa where they did some fun hands on art as well as music/spoken word, collaborations with local artists and musicians.
This week in Suva, the duo will conduct courses on stencil making with the focus on t-shirt design, street art, and entrepreneurship; interactive screen printing and “WORDSPOKEN” – a freestyle writing and spoken word class that explores rhythm and rhyme, heritage, and creative expression.
