23 September 2014. The Savusavu Jetty in Vanua Levu will be temporaliy closed to allow the Fiji Roads Authority to carry out improvements to the steel ramp installed on top of the jetty last Christmas. The work is being carried out at the request of the shipping companies to improve the operation and safety for the Roll On Roll Off ferries to load and unload vehicles.
The Fiji Roads Authority has primarily taken into consideration the services that could be affected as a result of the temporary closure through consultations and arrangements with shipping companies that use the Savusavu Jetty. These consultations were undertaken to minimise the interruption to shipping services in the area.
In line with the planned schedule, the Savusavu jetty will be closed from 0800hrs on Saturday the 27th of September and will be reopen at 1600hrs on Sunday the 28th of September to cater for a ship to berth before closing it off again at 2000hrs. The jetty will be opened up to the public for normal use on Tuesday the 30th of September at 0400hrs.
Overall the jetty will be closed for four days and local company Zaid Engineering Limited will be carrying out this work for the Fiji Roads Authority.
