This Saturday, 8th March a “Walk and Talk” event has been organized for the women of Tamavua Village and nearby communities to mark International Women’s Day.
This year we were like to acknowledge the women of our village/community and their efforts and contributions towards their individual families, to the “Vanua” and the church.
International Women’s Day has never been celebrated in this capacity before in the village, but with this year’s theme “Inspiring Change” we would like to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage, sacrifice, and determination by our women who have played an extraordinary role in our communities.
As the world celebrates the 106th annual International Women’s Day this Saturday, March 8th, we as a community will also have an opportunity to applaud some of the accomplishments, successes, and triumphs our women are making right now.
Our event will include a gathering in which we will acknowledge the presence of the elderly women who are still alive in the village and also remember the women and children who have been victims of abuse and domestic violence in our community and in our country. We want to work towards making our village free from violence and abuse through more awareness sessions and education and hopefully this will change mind sets.
We also want to empower our young women and girls to strive for higher education because women play a vital role as agents of development in which our community will greatly benefit in the future.
The event will also promote healthy living amongst the women as the walk will commence from 5am from the Tamavua Village Hall to Kundan Singh and back. The event will end with the women sharing light breakfast and refreshments and awareness sessions. The program is from 5am – 8am at Tamavua Village. About 60 plus women have registered and confirmed their participation to be part of this event.
We would also like to acknowledge the Tamavua Youth and Sports Committee, Coca- Cola Amatil Fiji and CJ Patel for their support and sponsorship towards our event.
