The Karan’s sponsored Suva Fiji side made a bullet start of the 2014 Pacific Cup thrashing New Zealand Vatukoula 6-0 in the first match of day one at the Sydney United Football Stadium last night, November 26.
The Gurjit Singh coached side displayed some classical football and applied early pressure which saw IDC hero Napolione Qasevakatini opening the floodgates for the Whites.
Settling well in the first half, Leone Damudamu and Ravinesh Karan Singh pressured the Vatukoula defense and got a goal each as they led 3-0 at the breather.
National U20 rep and lanky midfielder Nickel Chand netted the fourth goal for the Capital City boys before Australian based Norman Kanoun getting a brace of goals and sealing the victory for Suva.
Coach Gurjit Singh commended the boys for a gallant performance.
“It’s a good start. The boys have done well even though we traveled the same day.
“We did not get a chance to warm up but the boys did a great job.”
Suva will face neighbours Rewa Fiji in its second pool match at 9.45pm today (11.45pm Fiji Time).
