Wednesday 7 August – After settling off-field disputes via a tribunal hearing, the Digicel Cup semi-finals are finally confirmed.
Defending champions, Nadroga top the table and host fourth placed Namosi while second-placed Suva will face Nadi a week later in the capital city.
Nadi lost points gained from the protest in the game against Vatukoula and dropped from the top of the table to third place, losing the right to host a home semifinal.
Vatukoula gained four points and this helped the gold-town team to move from ninth place and into the top eight displacing Northland. Vatukoula also wins a place for the Farebrother-Sullivan Trophy challenge.
Nadroga will earn $5000.00 for finishing at the top of the table after round-robin play.
“I’m happy the semi-finals draw has been finalized. There were protests that needed to be addressed and we support the Fiji Rugby Union board of directors for taking this step to set up a tribunal hearing to deal with the complaints,” said Digicel Fiji’s Head of Marketing, Ms. Sheryl Singh.
“I’m looking forward to two tough semi-final games and on behalf of the sponsor we wish all the teams best of luck in finals rugby,” added Ms. Singh.
Digicel Fiji is working on giveaways and competitions for fans during the first semifinal between Nadroga and Namosi at Lawaqa Park with details to be announced soon.
