Monday 18th November – Rotuma’s primary school athletics side is over-joyed after their debut performance at last weekend’s FMF Chow Games in Suva.
The island team collected gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals in the two-day competition.
The team paid a visit to their sponsor’s headquarters, Digicel Fiji to thank them for all the support during the games.
“This is our first stop after the games, we want to thank our good sponsors for the generous sponsorship and this helped our efforts in Suva,” said Rotuma athletics team manager, Rafaele Viliame.
The team met Digicel Fiji chief executive officer, Maurice McCarthy who was overwhelmed to meet the young stars from the islands.
“Well done, to learn that you took part in your first games in Suva and that you managed to rake in 6 medals is a fantastic achievement,” said McCarthy.
Team Rotuma’s only gold medal was won by Berlinda Erasito, in the 400m, Samuela Mosese collected 2 silver medals in the 100m & 200m, Nicholas Tanu won silver in the 800m while Lusia Varea took out 2 bronze medals in the 50m & 75m.
McCarthy also presented the team with rugby balls for their use during sports classes next term.
Team Rotuma visited the museum and later were guests of the First Lady, Adi Koila Nailatikau at the Government House.
They return home next Tuesday.
