Delta Tigers Rewa made a perfect start in the 2014 Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants soccer tournament as they defeated Dalip Chand Buses Labasa 1-0 in the opening match at Govind Park in Ba earlier today.
The Bal Sanju Reddy coached Labasa side created numerous goal scoring opportunities, but strikers Joseph Mishra and Christopher Wasasala failed to find the back of the net.
Former Labasa rep Misaele Draunibaka punished the babasiga lions in the 41st minute after the defenders failed to clear the ball which allowed Draunibaka to sneak past diving goalie Epeli Loaniceva as Rewa led 1-0 at the break.
Labasa came firing into the second half looking for the much needed goals, however the stubborn Rewa defenders and some deadly saves by captain Simione Tamanisau kept the score intact till the final whistle.
Rewa meets defending champions Ba in their second pool match tomorrow while Labasa will face Fiji Fact champions Nadi.
