Most of the Nadi residents opposed the idea of the recent four laning road project from Denarau Island to the Nadi International Airport, during a public consultation meeting held by the Erasito Consulting & Project Managers at the town’s civic centre yesterday.
Born and Bread in Nadi, BroCher Enterprises Limited Director, Bryan Watson raised a few issues during the consultations.
“I am totally against the project because they seem to have no plan on how to decrease the problems we have been facing for the last couple of years and that is drainage which leads to flooding,” he said.
Watson said it would be better if the Erasito Consultants take the above problems into account.
Nadi Town Council CEO Nemia Tagi assured the public present that the project have been planned and implemented from a long time.
“The four lane road project was planned in 1970 and 1980 and the spaces have been reserved,” he said.
Tagi said it is about time that they start to do the project.
“This is the right time for the development, since there are a lot of cars in Nadi and we need to increase the roads,” he said.
Meanwhile, presenting from the Erasito Consultants, Richard Emerie said their objective is to improve access to the Airports in Nadi and Suva.
Construction to start on April and completed at the end of this year.
