Head of Government Instructs School Refurbishment and Construction of Teachers Quarters
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama continues to lift spirits of those affected by Tropical Cyclone Evan as he paid a surprise visit to twins, Miracle and Angel at Vunidawa District Hospital today.
The twins, who are from Nabena village in Naitasiri, were born premature during Tropical Cyclone Evan late last year.
The twins’ mother was evacuated via a helicopter to Suva after all access to roads were blocked due to floods during the cyclone.
PM Bainimarama, who was all smiles to see the twin “miracles”, was told that the twins had recovered well and would be discharged soon.
Meanwhile, the head of Government also toured Nairukuruku District School and Vunidawa District School in the Naitasiri province where he instructed that refurbishment and assistance to the two schools be carried out immediately. He also visited the Vunidawa Sanatam Primary School in Naitasiri and has asked officials to ensure that the refurbishment and construction of teachers quarters are included in the overall works. A request to construct new classroom blocks were approved today by the head of government after he witnessed the conditions that both teachers and students were facing.
The Prime Minister was overwhelmed with the determination by students to pursue their education despite the conditions of their classrooms and further boosted their morale with words of encouragement and advice.
He inspected the general works and conditions of the school and recognised areas which needed critical consideration and government support. At the same time, the Prime Minister called on students and teachers in both schools to work in unity and encouraged them to work hard.
The Prime Minister was in the province of Naitasiri attending to official engagements when he stopped to visit the schools on his way back.
