Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama congratulated members of the Raiwai Volleyball Club during their victory celebrations at Raiwai today.
The Prime Minister was invited by team officials to be the chief guest at their celebrations which was held at the Raiwai Top Ground in Suva.
In his address, the head of government urged the youth to use their talents to promote good sportsmanship and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
“I recommend to you, the youth of Raiwai to use your talents in the sporting field to promote good sportsmanship and to keep healthy,” Prime Minister Bainimarama said.
He also commended them on becoming the second team to win three volleyball titles in the same season, a feat that had previously been achieved 20 years ago.
“This achievement is a living testimony that volleyball is developing in this neighborhood of Raiwai and it is also a challenge to government to help in the development of minor sports such as these,” he said.
Prime Minister Bainimarama reassured them that government was committed to strengthening sports in the country through this year’s national budget allocation for the construction of five sports arenas in the provinces of Ra, Naitasiri, Tailevu, Macuata and Kadavu.
The coach of the victorious Raiwai volleyball team, Mr Akuila Vukataki was humbled and pleased to have the Prime Minister as their chief guest at their celebrations.
“The team and the people of Raiwai are really happy as this is the first time for a Prime Minister to come to our neighborhood and for him to enjoy the celebrations together with us a community is a very proud moment for everyone here.
