Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama met with Fijian peacekeeping troops serving in the Golan, in the Middle East, under the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force, more commonly known as UNDOF.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the men and women serving in the Golan and in other volatile parts of the world. He commended them for their sacrifice and for their commitment to upholding Fiji’s proud track record of peacekeeping operations.
The Prime Minister, who is accompanied by the Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, Brigadier General Mosese Tikoitoga, was welcomed by the Fijian troops at Camp Ziouani where he also inspected a guard of honor.
Following traditional ceremonies of welcome, the Prime Minister and his delegation held informal talks with the men and women serving there. Here, he updated them on the progress taking place at home. The meeting was also an opportunity for him to hear the experiences of the Fijian troops serving in the region.
In 2013, Fiji deployed the first group of peacekeeping troops to the Golan region.
