“THE Badge that you wear is a sign of the school’s trust in your qualities to lead your peers towards doing the right thing at the right time and not a decoration for your school uniform”.

Chief Guest and Director of the Fiji Police Traffic Control Division, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mahesh Mishra, made these comments during the prefects and leaders investiture ceremony at DAV College, Nabua this morning.

The theme of the College for this year’s Leadership Induction was “Developing exemplary leaders through sound execution of responsibilities and strategic thinking for relationship building and excellence in education.”

“As a College Prefect you are required to be a good leader, a motivator, a disciplinarian, one who encourages and helps, one who protects and one who can stand to be a role model for the college,” said SSP Mishra.

He told the prefects that they had an important role to play in terms of helping teachers.

“You need to maintain discipline and support the younger pupils of the school by being good role models”.

“You need to be a leader among students here in your school.”

It was a dream come true for Gau lad Paula Tudaravu after he was badged as head boy.

“I am ready to take up the challenge and most of all make changes in terms of the boys’ discipline and also boost the standard of the school”.

“I hope to establish a strong foundation before leading the students and also am a good role model to the younger ones.”

As for form 702 student Christina Obrien, being elected as Head Girl was an honour vowing to do her very best to lift the standard of the school with the help of school teachers.

A total of 155 prefects were inducted today.
