1. Police remind taxi drivers
Police are advising taxi drivers to be cautious of whom they chose to pick and if they feel unsafe at any point in time to drive to their nearest community post or police station and seek assistance.
It has been noted that there is a trend surfacing where 2 to 3 men are targeting taxi drivers with intentions of committing a crime.
The criminal elements will also take this weather condition and festival period the opportunity to target drivers which is why we are advising caution.
An incident occurred yesterday around 2230hrs whereby 2 unknown men hired a taxi from Center point to Epeli Street and drove away with the vehicle after pushing the driver out of the taxi.
Also in another incident at 2215hrs two unknown men hired a taxi and assaulted the driver near Nehru Primary School, tied him with the rope and left him at the back seat, later the taxi was found abandoned at Jittu Estate.
Meanwhile police are appealing to taxi drivers to stop the engine of their vehicles if they stop their vehicles to attend to some other chores.
It would be advisable if the drivers remove the keys to their cars and locked the doors. An incident in Nasinu early this week saw four men drove off in a taxi after robbing a service station. The driver of the taxi had parked his vehicle to purchase something from the shop leaving his car keys in the ignition.
2. Police arrest man for discovery of drugs
A 41 year taxi driver is in police custody after 42sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana were discovered on him in Banabhai, Makoi yesterday.
The suspect is in police custody and the dried leaves are send for analysis
Police is again warning people who involve themselves in this illegal trade to follow the law.
