Alleged arson
An investigation is underway following an alleged arson case in Basoga, Labasa.
An unknown person is alleged to have attempted to set fire to a house belonging to a 26 year old woman by lighting a tyre tube underneath her house. She managed to put out the fire and an investigation is now underway to ascertain the motive behind the alleged incident.
Serious Accident
A 50 year old farmer of Nasau, Nadi was rushed to the Nadi Hospital last night after he was allegedly hit by a vehicle driven by a 29 year old hotel worker of Nawaicoba, Nadi.
The incident occurred along the Nadi Back Road at around 7pm last night. The victim was riding his horse when he was allegedly hit by the suspect who was heading towards Namaka.
The victim was conveyed to the Nadi Hospital and later transferred to the Lautoka Hospital where he is currently admitted. The is currently in custody.
Meanwhile in the three road accidents recorded over the weekend involving children, a 37 year old has been charged for allegedly hitting an 8 year old student along the Waiqele Road in the Northern Division.
The accused has been charged with one count of dangerous driving causing actual bodily harm and has been bailed. The 8 year old victim has been discharged from hospital.
In the second incident also in the Northern Division, a 6 year old boy remains admitted at the Savusavu Hospital in stable condition after he was allegedly hit by a vehicle driven by a businesswoman in her early 50s.
The suspect will be brought in for questioning again today as investigations continue. It is alleged the 6 year old victim suddenly ran across the road when the incident occurred.
In the third incident, Police are still looking for the driver of a vehicle alleged to have hit an 8 year old student along Rewa Street at around 2.30 pm on Friday afternoon.
The victim has been discharged from Hospital while the hunt continues for the driver of the vehicle who failed to stop after the accident.
