The Prime Minister, Hon Peter O’Neill CMG MP, has extended Papua New Guinea’s congratulations to Fiji for the celebration of the country’s 44th Independence Anniversary this Friday, 10 October.
PM O’Neill expressed the sentiments on behalf of the people and government of Papua New Guinea in a letter from to Fiji’s Prime Minister, Hon Voreqe Bainimarama.
“The anniversary provides an excellent opportunity for all Fijians to unite in the spirit of solidarity and fellowship as a nation to reflect on the many challenges and achievements,” PM O’Neill noted in the correspondence.
The Prime Minister reflected on bilateral relations between the two countries and Papua New Guinea’s commitment to maintaining, improving and further enhancing the relationship.
“My government, as I have maintained in my discussions with you, remains committed towards improving and further enhancing all aspects of our bilateral relations for the mutual benefit of our people now and into the future,” the Prime Minister continued in the letter.
The significance of the recent election in Fiji was highlighted by PM O’Neill, which was also supported through funding from Papua New Guinea.
“The recent national election was a major milestone in Fiji’s history and is cause for celebration by the government and people.
“Prime Minister, congratulations once again and may the Good Lord continue to bless the government and people of Fiji as you celebrate you Independence Anniversary.”
