POLICE MEDIA CELL
This is the plea from the Fiji Police Force especially to mariners as it has been noted that people often defy these warnings and go out to sea with some trips ending tragically.
Mariners must realize that they are putting their own lives and the lives of others in danger if they decide to go out to sea despite the weather advisories.
In light of the heavy rain and flash flood warning issued by the Nadi Weather office parents and guardians are requested to keep a close eye on their children. This is a time when they usually venture outdoors and have a tendency to play in flooded waters.
The drowning toll stands at 13 compared to 14 for the same period last year.
However there are hidden threats which could result in tragic accidents which is why supervision during this time is vital.
Motorists are also being advised to drive with caution and care especially in light of the current weather conditions.
It is advisable to keep listening to the radio for further weather updates and please let’s work together to try and avoid any tragic incidents from occurring.
