The Fijian Government today received a new vehicle from the Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA) ahead of the second Pacific Island Development Forum Summit which begins on Thursday.
Acknowledging the donation on behalf of the PIDF and the Pacific, the Acting Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Litia Mawi said that she was pleased to accept the vehicle on behalf of the PIDF and the Pacific.
“I would like to thank you for the show of comradeship and development cooperation to not just Fiji but to the entire region through the PIDF,” Ms Mawi said.
“We can undertake that on behalf of the secretariat the vehicle will be put to the best of use and the public good and common cause for the intended benefit that it was targeted for.”
TIKA expert for the Pacific region, Conon Alpaslan said that they believed their cooperation with the PIDF would go a long way.
“On behalf of TIKA and the people of TIKA, I am happy to be here and to be part of this donation,” Ms Alpaslan said.
“We had initiated our cooperation with the Pacific five years ago and this year we have projects in 10 countries in this region.”
Also present at the handing over was the Secretary General for the PIDF, Feleti Te’o.
