Government today reiterated its plans to construct a new dam in Sabeto to complement the Vaturu dam in light of the rapid growth of Nadi and Lautoka.
Minister for Infrastructure Hon. Parveen Kumar says Government recognises the pace of growth in the two western hubs and will ensure that infrastructure developments are in place to cater for the rising demand of water.
Minister Kumar highlighted this during a visit to the Nagado Water treatment plant and the Vaturu dam on the highlands of Nadi to see first-hand the current structure and the new developments that have been proposed by the Water Authority of Fiji.
“Government is aware of the demand in water services in the Nadi – Lautoka corridor and we will ensure that the necessary infrastructure is put in place to cater for this demand,” Minister Kumar said.
“My visit here is part of the 20 – year Master Plan (2013 – 2033) and to see how far works have been carried out and what we can expect in the future especially in the next three to five years.”
Minister Kumar was accompanied by the Water Authority board and was pleased to note that the new developments in the Nadi – Lautoka corridor such as the Momi Bay Project, Pullman Resort in Wailoaloa Bay, the Fiji – China City in Lomolomo, the industrial sub – division in Legalega (Nadi) and the various residential lots would have access to water.
