The Fiji National Hockey team yesterday presented their itatau or traditional farewell to the office of His Excellency the President before departing for the Hockey World League in India.
The Minister for Youth and Sports Commander Viliame Naupoto accepted the itatau on behalf of His Excellency the President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.
“You are a team now and remain a team – do not deviate from that. Also it is important that you know that now that you are representing Fiji,” Minister Naupoto said as he reminded the players not to deviate from their goal.
“Your must be able to take criticism because you are now owned by the people of Fiji.”
He added that the Fiji hockey team was on the right track and the team must return knowing they have given everything.
“I know the challenges and the hard yards already put in by you (players) and because of your efforts I am sure that you will achieve your goals – it is important that you return knowing that you have given your best,” Minister Naupoto said.
Men’s coach Hector Smith said the team would remember and reflect on the message shared today by the Minister.
