The Nadi District Office is closely monitoring river levels as heavy downpour continues as a result of a trough of low pressure currently passing over the Fiji Group.
Nadi district officer Jiuta Waqavonovono has reminded residents living in low lying areas prone to flash flooding such as Nawajikuma, Korociri, Sabeto, low lying Nawaka and settlements such as Navakai to continue monitoring weather reports relayed on the radio.
“Nadi is a low lying area and people living near drains and rivers know what to do and I reiterate for them to continue monitoring the weather reports,” Mr Waqavonovono said.
“I still see people not preparing during the dry season and drains remain blocked as people continue to litter in drains and rivers.”
Mr Waqavonovono added that people must ensure they play their part in ensuring their loved ones are safe from rising water levels in rivers and drains during flash floods.
Despite there being no reports of flash flooding in Nadi which has received 61mm of rainfall since yesterday, residents are advised to remain vigilant and closely monitor the situation.
The public are advised to contact the Nadi District Office on the landline 6700-043 or fax 6700101. DO Nadi can be contacted on mobile9296599.
