The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mr Viliame Naupoto, visited Gospel Primary School in Suva today, for the launch of the new Kids Cricket Program for primary schools.
A joint initiative between Cricket Fiji and the Fiji National Sports Commission, the program aims to bring cricket to a wider range of primary school-aged students, helping to balance their academic education with a healthy and active lifestyle.
In today’s first session at Gospel Primary School, a massive 263 class three and four students participated in an introductory cricket clinic. For many of them, it was their first time picking up a cricket bat.
Cricket Fiji’s Development Manager, Saiasi Fuli, said the program will reach an additional nine schools a week to the programs already run by his team of Development Officers. Three different primary schools three days a week will receive a one-hour cricket session run by accredited Cricket Fiji Development Officers throughout term two.
The participating schools in the initial phase of the program are Gospel Primary School, Indira Ghandi Memorial School, Draiba Fijian School, Suva Primary School, Samabula Primary School, Nabua Primary School, MGM Primary School, Nabua Sanatan School, and Suva Muslim Primary School.
