Twenty-eight  children from the Koroipita Model Community received awards for their outstanding academic achievements during the 2014 school year at the annual awards night held at Koroipita hall.

“The project helps families to invest in their children’s education so they are can excel and advance,” said Project Community Development Manager Susan Naidu.

The Koroipita Education Support Programme was established in 2006 to help families and children who were then struggling to pay school fees. An Education Action Committee (EAC) consisting of Koroipita parents was formed to help administer the programme.

Each year the committee visits schools to gather information on the progress of the Koroipita children.

They can now focus on assisting children with school uniforms, bags, exercise books and stationery. This is made possible through donations from overseas based benefactors.

Koroipita is a registered kindergarten and a computer school with internet services and a library to assist the children with their school work.

The Project is funded by the New Zealand Aid Programme and there is also support from Rotary International, European Union, Collette Foundation and other donors.
