Inmate Ulaiasi Qalomai is still on the run after escaping on Friday 21st November from a work party outside of the Lautoka Corrections Facility.
The 18 year-old escapee is originally from Daria, Wainunu in Bua with his residential address located in Navoci, Nadi.
Qalomai was admitted on the 28th of July this year for the offence of theft.
He is serving a sentence of 1year 5 months and 17 days.
While a joint operation is currently being conducted by Correction officers and officers of the Fiji Police Forces, the Fiji Corrections Service is appealing to the public for information on his whereabouts.
We continue to remind the general public that it is a criminal offence to harbor escapees.
Under the Corrections Act [2006], Any person who:
(a.) Harbours any prisoner illegally at large;
(b.)knowingly employs any prisoner illegally at large; or
(c.) knowingly and without lawful excuse assists any prisoner illegally at large,
commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or to a term of imprisonment not exceeding 2 years, or to both.
