Hindus have offered heartfelt condolences on the death of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, leader of the Sephardic Jewish community, on October seven in Jerusalem (Israel).
Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Oregon (USA) today, said that they were saddened by the passing of Rabbi Yosef, 93, influential spiritual leader of Judaism and a well known teacher. He would be greatly missed.
Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, voiced appreciation for Rabbi Yosef’s expertise on Torah, for being highly regarded Halakha (Jewish law) arbiter and for his Talmudic commentaries.
Rajan Zed, who described Rabbi Yosef as a Torah authority and having a popular touch, mourning his death, extended heartfelt sympathy at this time of great sorrow to his followers and family.
Although we did not agree on some of the reported comments he made but we appreciated his reported efforts to encourage the peace process, Zed added.
Rabbi Yosef was born in 1920 in Baghdad.
