An investigation is underway following the death of a 6 year old boy as a result of gunshot wounds, while a 14 year old student is admitted at the Lautoka Hospital.
The incident occurred yesterday at 1800hrs at Sabeto Hill.
The deceased from Auckland, New Zealand was in Fiji with his family. The family are currently constructing their home at the site of the tragic incident.
The deceased had accompanied a relative who is the owner of the licensed gun used for shooting wild goats and pigs to the site.
While his parents and relatives were inspecting the house, they heard the sound of a gunshot and rushed to the vehicle where the gun was kept and saw the two injured and rushed them to hospital.
The 6 year old was pronounced dead on arrival while the 14 year old student of Nadi is in critical condition at the Lautoka Hospital.
Statements of the construction workers have been taken while the owner of the gun is still in custody for interrogation. Investigations continue.
