An 11 year old female student of a Primary school in Tailevu has become a victim of drowning on the eve of the second school term.
This has taken the drowning death toll up to 26 compared to 23 in the same period last year.
The class 6 student was catching fish yesterday afternoon at Wainibuka River with her uncle and two other cousins of the same age.
It was alleged that they were attending to their fishing net when the victim drowned.
Her uncle managed to get her out of the water, tried to revive her but failed.
Police are urging parents to be more cautious on where their children are at all times.
Attending to fishing nets is a huge risk and it should not involve children.
