Ganesh Chaturthi is a momentous Hindu festival which is celebrated annually in the honor of the elephant headed Hindu god, Ganesha. The festival, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi is observed on the fourth day of the waxing moon period in the month of baadrapada in Hindu calendar, which in the English Calendar usually falls in the month of August or September.
The Sri Subramaniya Swami Temple celebrated the event from the 26th of August till the 30th of same month. The five day event is a grand one whereby devotees join the joyous occasion to seek the blessings of the lord.
In an invitation message from the temple board, the chief priest of Nadi Temple, Anand Gurukkal said that the celebration of Lord Vinayakas birthday is a grand occasion and the scale of the celebration at the Sri Subramaniya Swami Temple is the proof of that.
The five day event is celebrated at the temple with all the required Hindu rituals to woo Lord Ganesha. Special activities are organized at the temple in which children and adult all can take part.
On the fifth day of the event, devotees carry the statue of Lord Ganesha, which is usually made by devotees using clay, to the seaside to be immersed in the sea to farewell the remover of all obstacles, the Maha Ganpathi , and to finally mark the end of the event.
