The team representing the Fiji School of Medicine (FSM) took out the Fiji University Sporting Association (FUSA) Games cricket title at Albert Park today, after defeating the team from the University of the South Pacific (USP) by six wickets.
After a last minute withdrawal by the team representing the University of Fiji, the teams from FSM and USP took each other on in a Twenty20 match.
Batting first, USP got off to a strong start, thanks to openers Metiusela Daucakacaka (29) and S Baba (47). However, when the first wicket fell the rest followed steadily, with USP finishing all out for 115 runs after an even 17 overs.
Ajish (5-29 off four overs) finished with exceptional figures with the ball for FSM, backed up by his teammates Manish and Reshwin, who took two wickets apiece.
In the second innings it was once again an opener who top scored for their team, with Sid making a game-high 62 runs. Despite the other top-order wickets falling quickly, in what was potentially a Man of the Match-winning performance, it was once again Ajish who steadied the ship, with a solid 26 not out. Together with Tomasi, he guided the team from FSM to the winning total of 119 in just 12 overs, securing the six-wicket victory.
Despite their defeat there was still some great bowling from the USP side in the second innings, with the top figures belonging to Magi Mocevakaca, who took two wickets for 20 runs off just two overs.
Cricket Fiji would like to thank both teams who competed today, and congratulate them on their preparations and performance on the field.
