France Responds to PM’s Handover

France’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson responded yesterday from Paris to the resignation
of Prime Minister Bainimarama from his position as commander in chief. A decision that brings Fiji
another step closer to Elections by September 2014.

Fiji – Resignation by the Prime Minister from the post of commander in chief of the armed forces (5
March 2014)

“Mr. Franck Voreqe Bainimarama, Prime Minister of the Republic of Fiji Islands, resigned today from
his position as commander in chief of the armed forces, in accordance with his commitment.
France encourages Fiji’s interim government in the process of restoring democracy.

France notes positively this decision by the Prime Minister of Fiji that follows closely behind the
implementation of a new constitution and the appointment of an Electoral Commission and which
brings Fiji another step closer to Elections by September 2014.”
