National Fire Authority (NFA) is again reminding the members of the community to take extra care.
A house fire incident at the Koronivia Road in Nausori resulted in a family losing all their belongings after their nine bedroom house was destroyed by fire this afternoon.
NFA Nausori received the fire emergency call at 1314hrs and immediately responded. Upon arrival at 1323hrs, the fire crew saw the house fully engulfed in flames.
The fire crew extinguished the fire with the support of fire teams from Suva and Valelevu. NFA investigations are underway to determine the cause of this fire incident.
A 70 year old woman was at home when the fire started and NFA commends the quick action of the neighbors and family members to save her. The fire had spread very quickly so there was no opportunity to save anything else in the property.
The NFA is again reiterating its call for the members of the public to take extra care as this house fire incident has left another family homeless and the loss of their belongings.
NFA CEO, John O’Connor is again humbly pleading with members of the public to take extra care in their houses and to identify and mitigate possible causes of fire.
“The total number of structural fire incidents so far this year has increased to 36 which is a major concern for the NFA.”
“NFA continues to urge and plead with members of the community to please take heed of our advice and exercise care within their homes to avoid property fires”, Mr O’Connor said.
