FIJIAN SOLDIERS ABDUCTED BY TERRORISTS IN SYRIA

Fourty-three Fijian soldiers who are serving under the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) in Golan Heights, Syria have been abducted by a terrorist group linked to al- Qaeda.

Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Brigadier-General Mosese Tikoitoga (pictured) confirmed the report in a press conference at the Army Strategic Headquarters in Suva this morning.

Brigadier-General Tikoitoga said all captured soldiers are believed to be safe and unharmed and they are trying to get more information on UN’s efforts to negotiate a peaceful solution to the situation.
