The Hon. Minister for Foreign Affairs Ratu Inoke Kubuabola today attended the Melanesian Spearheaded Group (MSG) Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
Foreign Ministers and senior officials from the MSG met to consider the MSG annual budget and work program for 2015. Earlier this week, senior officials from the MSG met to discuss these issues before it was presented to the MSG Ministers.
In addressing the forum, Minister Kubuabola emphasized the high expectations the Fijian people had in the work of the MSG Secretariat and the desire to see higher returns on its investment. Among the milestone achievements of the MSG in 2014 were the Melanesia Arts and Culture Festival, the MSG Trade and Investment Road and the engagement of skilled Fijian personnel in MSG countries under the MSG framework of agreement.
The Foreign Ministers’ meeting was also attended by the Hon Milner Tozaka, Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade of the Solomon Islands; Hon. Sato Kilman, Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and External Trade of the Republic of Vanuatu and H.E Mr. Fred Yakasa, High Commissioner, PNG High Commission to Solomon Islands who attended on behalf of the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Immigration of PNG
Earlier in the week, Minister Kubuabola paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Vanuatu, Hon. Joe Natuman and the Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Sato Kilman. The courtesy calls provided the opportunity to briefly discuss issues of bilateral interest for Fiji and Vanuatu.
