Fiji wins Tokyo 7s opener after defeating South Africa, 29-12.
South Africa started strong with an opening try from Steven Hunt, 5-0.
Fiji bounced back and led at halftime after speedster, Samisoni Viriviri scored a try few minutes after Sakiusa Gavidi’s try, 5-12.
Fiji then stretched the lead at second half after Jasa Veremalua scored a try, 5-17.
Cecil Afrika helped his South African side bounced back after scoring a try, 10-17, but it wasn’t enough after Benito Masilevu scored a try for to extend Fiji’s lead and Samisoni Viriviri scoring his second try of the match to seal the win.
In other matches, Australia defeated England, 26-19, Samoa defeated Argentina, 17-14, Portugal was defeated by Spain, 17-14.
Fiji will then meet Spain at 5.51pm and Portugal at 9.19pm.
