Fiji kicked off the 2013 Pepsi ICC East Asia Pacific T20 Cricket Senior men’s tournament in Auckland, New Zealand with a big 10 wicket win over Indonesia in their opening game of the tournament.
Fiji was too strong for Indonesia. The Fijian bowlers were at the top of their game bowling the Indonesian side all out for just 46 runs. Jone Batinibula was the best Fijian bowler taking 4 wickets for 7 runs and Samuela Dranivudi with 2 wickets for 9 runs.
Fiji made 47 runs without the loss of a wicket. Sekove Ravoka was 28 not out and Colin Rika 10 not out.
“This has been a great start to the tournament and I am sure the other teams will be looking at Fiji and saying that we mean business,” said Captain Joe Rika.
“We need to make sure that we don’t get carried away as this is just the first game of the tournament but we can draw a lot of confidence from this game.”
Coach Joeli Mateyawa was equally pleased with his players.
“We are heading in the right direction to our goal which is to win this tournament.”
“We will take one game at a time and ensure that we are well prepared for each game.”
Jone Batinibula was named man of the match.
Fiji is scheduled to play 2 games tomorrow with the first game against Japan and then the afternoon game against the Cook Islands.
The winner of this tournament will progress to the World Cup qualifier in Dubai towards the end of 2013.
