Thursday, 14 August 2014: Fiji Link, the domestic subsidiary of Fiji Airways, has added another direct flight between Suva and Taveuni, boosting capacity to the Garden Island from the Capital by 50%.
Starting September 13th, passengers will be able to take a new (third) direct flight on Saturdays. The Taveuni – Suva flight departs at 9:25am, arriving in Suva at 10:30am. The Suva – Taveuni flight departs the Capital at 11am, arriving Taveuni just after midday.
Stefan Pichler, Fiji Airways Group Managing Director and CEO, said the airline was delighted to be able to increase capacity to Taveuni.
“We see potential for growth in domestic traffic as well as inbound tourists from Fiji Airways international flights to Taveuni,” he said. “This service will also assist travellers get to Taveuni via Suva, given high demand on our Nadi-Taveuni flights during peaks. While overall the domestic services do not contribute to our profit margins due to the restricted airport infrastructure, we are well aware of their importance to the tourism operators and the people of Taveuni. We are mindful of Fiji Link’s critical role as the main domestic carrier in situations like this, and we assist where we can.”
Currently Fiji Link operates two flights in a week between Suva and Taveuni.
