The sixth of July saw plenty of action down at the Traveler’s Beach Resort on Wailoaloa Beach in Nadi. The annual Business Regatta for paddling was held during the morning until late afternoon, where nine different teams from a range of hotels and businesses participated in the event.
Each different team battled it out on the Nadi Bay in the famous burning-west heat for the Business House 2013 title, using a combination of man-power, co-operation and teamwork to row towards their goal.
The team to watch on the day was the Fiji Airways team comprised of members of the Fiji Airways’ Engineering department, self-titled the ‘Turbo Fans’ and a second team, the ‘Turbo-Props’. The Turbo Props team clocked the fastest time during the qualifying rounds of the competition, and later saw victory, claiming the title by sprinting past the two teams from the Hilton Resort on Denarau that had also made the Finals.
Fiji Airways’ Turbo Props clocked a time of 1:29:65 minutes, whilst the Hilton Seasiders followed very close behind, losing by just a fraction with a time of 1:30:46 minutes. Third-placed Hilton Wave-Riders clocked 1:39:50 on the results board.
Apart from the Cup competition, a plate-competition was also held in order to give the participants on the day another shot at earning spoils. The winners of the plate title were the Sofitel Bonjour Bula team, racing to first place with a good ten-second lead in front of the other two plate-finalists who had qualified for a chance at the title.
The host club of the event, the Nadi Bay Canoe Club, saw the regatta run through the day smoothly with no hassle and plenty of fun had.
A sprint regatta is set to take place in Nadi at the Traveler’s Beach Resort on the third of August, where the local clubs will be participating in the competition.
