It’s been a busy week in the Under-18 girls’ division of the Suva Secondary Schools’ Competition, with Dudley High School, Gospel High School and Ratu Sukuna Memorial School (RSMS) all recording wins.
On Wednesday the team from Dudley took on RSMS at Albert Park. RSMS won the toss and sent Dudley into bat, who finished with a very respectable 5-58 off their allotted ten overs. Caroline starred for her team, top scoring with 30 not out, whilst with the ball for RSMS, Daiana and Ledua both came away with figures of 2-21 off four overs.
In reply RSMS could only manage 5-31 off their ten overs. In what was surely a Player of the Match-performance, Caroline once again was the star for Dudley, finishing with 2-10 with the ball off three overs.
Thursday saw two matches played at Albert Park, the first between Gospel and Lomary Secondary School. Batting first, Lomary finished on 7-35 after ten overs, thanks to brilliant batting by Maria, who finished on 26 not out. Joana and Sainimere were the best bowlers for Gospel, each taking two wickets for seven runs off two overs.
It was a tight finish, but in the end Gospel walked away winners, finished on 6-37 in their ninth over. Pele top scored with 12 in the second innings, whilst with the ball for Lomary Mere was outstanding, finishing with figures of 4-7 off two overs.
The final match of the round saw the team from RSMS back out on the field, this time taking on Nasinu Secondary School. Winning the toss, RSMS chose to bat first, and finished with a total of 6-34 after batting out all ten overs. Best bowling for Nasinu came from Vulisere, who took two wickers for nine runs off two overs.
In reply Nasinu could only manage 7-23, after Ledua ripped through the order, taking four wickets for six runs off her two overs, which gave her team an 11 run win.
This afternoon’s matches have been postponed due to the weather.
There will be a break from the tournament next week due to Cricket Fiji hosting the inaugural Under-17 Pasifika Tri-Series.
