Digicel farewells Fiji 7s

MEDIA RELEASE

The Alivereti Dere coached Fiji 7s leave Nadi for Wallis and Futuna on Saturday.

The 9-man Fiji rugby 7s team to the Pacific Mini Games was accorded a farewell ceremony by its sponsors, Digicel Fiji this morning.

Fiji 7s skipper, Benito Masilevu is confident of a good outing in Wallis and Futuna after going through a sound preparation.

“We want to thank our sponsors, Digicel Fiji for assisting the team and the players in our preparation and we hope to do our best and fulfill your wishes at the Mini Games next week,” said Masilevu.

Fiji 7s had to settle for a silver medal back in 2009 in Rarotonga, going down to Samoa 38 – 12 in the gold medal final.

“Fiji were also beaten in Noumea in 2011, so I believe this time it’ll be third time lucky with victory in Wallis and Futuna for Dere’s side,” said Singh.

“We have many new faces in this team and they’ll be playing at their first tournament so surely the boys will be out to prove a point,” said Masilevu.

The Fiji 7s side lost forward Jasa Veremalua last week who has been ruled out due to an injury while rugged forward Jone Vota was dropped from the team last night because of disciplinary reasons.

Meanwhile, the team leaves Nadi on Saturday, the rugby 7s tournament at the Mini Games will be played next Tuesday and Wednesday.
