  1. MINISTER LEADS TOUR TO NORTHERN DIVISION

The Hon. Minister for Fisheries and Forests, Osea Naiqamu, is leading a government delegation to the Northern Division.

The Minister’s visit will allow him to look at the progress undertaken to develop the fisheries and forestry sector there. At the same time, it will give him the opportunity to look at the challenges faced especially by ordinary Fijians who earn an income through the two sectors.

During informal talks with fishermen of Labasa, the Minister heard the challenges faced by fishermen and the different proposals offered.

He informed them that Government would look into the challenges faced by the farmers and fishermen in the North. He highlighted that Government recognises the contribution by the Northern Division in Fiji’s overall development.

“We have plans for the development for our forestry and fisheries sector for the benefit of our people.”

“Let us work together and build our nation, a Vanua Levu for every Fijians’ benefit.”

The Minister is expected to be in Savusavu tomorrow and Taveuni, Rabi and Nabouwalu later in the week.

  1. HANDING OVER FOR NEW DIVISIONAL COMMISSIONERS

The Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management will be conducting handovers and briefings for the newly appointed Divisional Commissioners this week.

Acting Permanent Secretary, Mr. Setareki Tale, said that these leadership transitions are crucial in the overall direction and success of the Ministry.

“The Commissioners bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in rural development and in the public service in general.

“Their role as Commissioners is immensely important because they coordinate the work of various government agencies and stakeholders in the divisions.”

“Accordingly, it is fitting that we have a smooth transition for the new commissioners who will now be spearheading rural development and national disaster management efforts within the divisions”, Mr Tale emphasised.

The schedule for the divisional handing-over and briefing for the newly appointed Divisional Commissioners are as follows:

Commissioner Western Division, Mr. Manasa Tagicakibau – Wednesday (07/01/15)

Commissioner Central Division, Mr. Meleti Bainimarama – Thursday (08/01/15)

Commissioner Eastern Division, Mr. Luke Moroivalu – Thursday (08/01/15)

Commissioner Northern Division, Mr. Jovesa Vocea – to be confirmed when he takes post in July
