On Monday morning the Cricket Fiji U19 national side held their final strength training under the watchful eye of national head coach Shane Jurgensen and high performance manager Joe Rika. The team will fly to Blenheim, New Zealand on Thursday to take part in the Pepsi ICC U19 Mens trophy and compete for a chance to qualify for the 2016 ICC U19 Cricket World Cup to be held in Bangladesh.

Cricket Fiji will be sending a 14-man squad to compete in a 50-over round robin style tournament against Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and Samoa. The winner will advance directly into the Cricket World Cup in 2016, with the runner-up winning the right to enter further global play-offs against the other four regions of the ICC for an entry spot.

Game one will begin on the 24th of February with Fiji taking on Papua New Guinea, game two on the 25th against Vanuatu, game three on the 27th against Samoa, with 1st playing 4th and 2nd playing 3rd on the 28th for entry into the Final match on the 2nd of March.

“A good chance to evaluate the primary and secondary school cricket development program in the Fiji Islands in comparison to strong cricketing neighbours PNG, Samoa and Vanuatu”.
