Bring on Junior Whites

The Vodafone Fiji Under-19 side is all set to face the New Zealand-Junior Whites this Sunday 5pm at Bill McKinlay Park, Auckland.

The side defeated Western Springs last night 5-2 to maintain their winning streak and is looking forward to the next two clashes against NZ U-20.

Iosefo Verevou and Samuela Nabenia scored a brace of goals for the Fiji side. Setareki Hughes also got his name on the scoring sheet.

“The team without any doubt played the best game of the tour. It gave a chance to players who did not get much game time in the previous games an opportunity to get a run,” Fiji Football Association National Coaching director Juan Carlos Buzzetti said.

“The first half finished 2-2 against a team fit and well organised. In the second half our team controlled the game with smooth 1 or 2 touches of the ball that allowed us to keep possession of the ball and create good counter attacks. The 5 goals except for one penalty were very well executed by our players with a team build up and very good finish,” he said.

Buzzetti said they are eager to complete the seven match tour on a high note.

“After 4 games in 8 days now we will face a very strong NZ selected squad that include players from overseas on Sunday and Tuesday but will be ready for the first game with NZ,” Buzzetti said.

The Fiji U-19 returns home on May 9, 2014.
