Now one of the eleven new record holders after the first day of Coca Cola Games, 18-year-old Sireli Bulevorevore felt a relieve of his shoulders as his hard work and dedications had paid off after he broke a 19 year old record in the senior boys long jump with a jump of 7.16 metres.
Bulevorevore said the competition was tough from all the participating schools.
““The first two jumps i think i was abit nervous but as jumps goes on i started realizing that Marist started to beat me and so competition started getting tough and so i just pushed on till the end,” he said.
Turning nineteen this August, Bulevorevore said he is very thankful to his family for the continuous support.
““Training was very marvellous, every technique was done in the jump, i would just like to thank my family,friends and teachers for their support.The expectation from the school was a abit of a struggle but it motivated me, and it feels great breaking the record,” he said.
The old record was set in 1994, with a jump of 7.16 metres.
Miriama Senokonoko of Adi Cakobau School beat the senior girls tripple jump record with a jump of 12.03 seconds.
Diama Maramanikaibau of Holy Cross College broke the record of Senior Girls High Jump, with a jump of 1.65 metres.
Tafa varea of Marist Brothers High School broke the Intermediate boys Discuss, with a throw of 4.12 metres.
Tavua College student Waisea Dausoko broke the intermediate boys long jump with a jump of 7.09 metres.
He broke the record of 6.95 metres set by former national rugby rep Iliesa Keresoni in 2004, during his time with Lelean Memorial School.
The other record breakers included Petero Warekolo of Solevu High and Inia Sili of Shree Gurunanak Secondary also set the new times in the 1500m junior and senior boy’s grade respectively.
Mustafa Fall of Marist Brothers High School won the senior boys shot put with a throw of 15.80 metres, breaking the record of 15.14metres set by Solomoni Qisavalu of Marist in 2005.
Batinisavu Uluiyata Natabua High School set a new time in the intermediate boys 400m final after clocking a time of 48.06sec, beating the record time of 48.89 seconds set by Suva Grammar’s Eroni Cagi in 2009.
Meanwhile in the Blue Ribbon Event, Beniamino Maravu of Saint Bedes College is now the new king of the tracks after clocking a time of 10.82 seconds at the Coca Cola Games 100 metrres seniors boys finals. Sisilia seavula won Gold for senior girls clocking a time of 12.69 seonds.
Marist Brothers High School now leads the boys division medal tally at the end of Day one with 4 Gold, 3 Silver and 1 Bronze. And Adi Cakobau leads the girls division with 3 Gold and 1 Bronze.
