First record broken by Werekoro at the 2013 Coca Cola Games

15-year-old Petero Werekoro looks forward to running again next year, after winning finishing first in the Junior Boys 1,500 metres final event, a while ago.

The Buan lad broke the old record of 4 minutes 27 seconds by Apisai Tuidia of Bucalevu Secondary in 2002, after he clocked a time of 4 minutes 26 seconds.

“I feel great after running on the new tracks and later won by event with another record. I look forward to compete again next year,” Werekoro said.

Isikeli Waseqali of Bua College won silver while Apisalome Vuadreu of Vunisea Secondary scooped the bronze medal.

In the Girls Division, Jasper William High School leads the medal tally after Mereseini Naidau won the 1500 metres open grade event,   clocking a time of 5 minutes 1 second.

Ana Maria of Vaturova Koroalau High School won silver, Maopa Tabualovoni of Solevu Junior Secondary took bronze.

In the Intermediate Boys 1500 metres event, Iliesa Rakete of Koro High scooped Gold, Farisiko Mualevu of Suva Grammar won Silver while Vinish Pillay of Ba Sanatan College took bronze.

In the Senior Boys 1500 metres final, Inia Sili of Gurunanak Khalsa  Secondary of Macuata took Gold, Paula Buke of Xavier won Silver while Epeli Batisila won Bronze.

The 400 metres heats are currently underway.

The 100 metres final, which is the highlight of the day, will start at 7.49pm.

 A total of 43 gold medals are on offer on the first day.
