Fiji celebrity chef Lance Seeto is a special guest of the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau, the equivalent of Tourism Fiji, when he visits the American island as a member of the International Food Wine and Travel Writers Association next week.
The award winning media personality has attracted the interest of Hawaii’s tourism body, who along with other international journalists, have organised a seven day tour of the Polynesian island to discover ancient Hawaii through history, arts, culture, and food.
The Hawaiian Polynesians are distant cousins of the Fijian iTaukei and were an extension of the great seafaring adventures more than 3,500 years ago across Asia, Australasia, the South Pacific, Hawaii and the United States.
Seeto is in Hawaii as a journalist to experience the differences between the two island nations and how history set Fiji and Hawaii on two very different paths.
Unlike Fiji, Hawaiians of mixed Chinese and Japanese ancestry make up nearly half of the population. Seeto is taking advantage of Air Pacific’s direct flights from Nadi to Honolulu to meet and sample food from Hawaii’s top chefs across its islands, and to learn how the American tourism body markets itself to the world.
