Twenty newly enrolled students could not believe their good fortune when they were invited to a special luncheon and presentation ceremony as part of the University of the South Pacific’s early enrolment campaign for 2013 semester 1.

USP, as part of their marketing campaign targeted at student recruitment, ran a competition encouraging students to enrol before 31 January, 2013 to be considered in a draw to win a range of exciting prizes which included rugby jerseys, a Vodafone Flashnet, flash drives, headsets, mobile phones, an eBook reader, a tablet and a Laptop.

Amongst the sponsors of this innovative marketing campaign, were Office Equipment, Vodafone, the USP Bookcentre and the Faculty of Science, Technology and Environment (FSTE).  The support of these sponsors also highlights the on-going positive relationship USP enjoys with its stakeholders particularly in the private sector.

The20 winners were drawn two weeks ago at a meeting of the USP Marketing Committee through random computer-generated selection.

Director of Development, Marketing and Communications, Mr Jaindra Karan, said 4919 students had enrolled by 31 January.

“This is just a small token for these early birds present here today, who decided to enrol before 31 January,” he said.

He thanked all the sponsors for donating the prizes.

Associate Deans, Dr Bibhya Sharma from the FSTE and Dr Bruce Yeates from the Faculty of Arts, Law and Education (FALE) who are also active members of the USP Marketing Committee, were on hand to present the students with their prizes.

Repeka Bogi, 20, from Vanua Levu, who won an ASUS Laptop, was elated.

“It was really unexpected. But I am extremely grateful to the university, and will value this prize to take me ahead in my education,” she said.

Students from the University’s regional campuses were also amongst the prize winners, with one prize winner being from the Lautoka Campus.

The Marketing team usually runs these promotional campaigns before the beginning of the first semester of every academic year.
