Soroptomist International (SI) continues to help communities live a better life after they have financed the repairs of Mulomulo Muslim Primary School’s toilet block and ceilings for two classrooms.
Chief Guest at the commencing of the project, Nadi Town Council Special Administrator, Aisea Tuidraki said the school was badly damaged from the TC Evan and it was important to get it repaired.
“Mulomulo Muslim Primary School was also a victim of TC Evan. I know that along with the classrooms, their toilet block was also badly damaged. However, today their problem has been resolved. Having proper toilets is very important, especially in a school and I commend SI Nadi for this effort to ease the lives of these children,” he said.
Tuidraki also mentioned that the rest of the affected areas are recovering quite well from the natural disasters that took place.
The Western and Northern parts of Fiji experienced more than its fair share of natural disasters last year – The floods at the beginning of the year and then tropical cyclone Evan in December. All three had caused a lot of destruction. Many lost their homes and belongings, schools were also damaged and people are still picking up bits and pieces even after months of the last natural disaster. That just proves how bad the effect was. The government and donors are trying to help as much as they can,” he said.
The government including (town and city councils) is helping schools to maintain proper infrastructure standards; however, due to monetary constraints we may not be able to help everyone.
“The duty of every individual and organisation to do whatever is in their power to see that the basic rights of people are met,” Tuidraki said.
The programme will be completed by this Saturday.
