Different head of villages in Nadi and Lautoka have made a decision of appointing their respective media committees, after they attended and took part in a first ever community workshop organize by the country’s media watchdogs, Fiji Media Watch, at the Nadi Civic Centre, yesterday.
Speaking to The Jet Newspaper after the workshop, Ba Provincial Council Chairman, Ratu Meli Saukuru said they have learnt a lot from the media workshop.
“We have learnt a lot about the media, on how to use it and protect ourselves from it. It was a great education for us.”
“We have come up with a decision that when we go back, we will appoint five or six members of the villages, especially youth to be our media committees,” he said.
Ratu Saukuru said after appointing these members, they will then represent the villages to different workshops as such.
“These members will then attend the media workshop organize by the Fiji Media Watch to learn more on media and responsibilities to take,” he said.

Navatulevu headman, Kiniviliame Labalaba said it was a good learning experience for him after taking part in the workshop.
“This is a first time for me to learn about media in-depth, and I am really thankful to the Fiji Media Watchdogs, for briefing us the community on what is actually happening around us regarding media,” he said.
Fiji Media Watch Coordinator, Lusiana Senibulu said the workshop is applicable to the community as a whole.
“Our targets are the youths, women and the community leaders. We are creating media literacy and media awareness amongst community members from different religious backgrounds,” she said.
The three day workshop was attended by more than 60 participants.
