Fijian Ex-participants of JICA Education training to showcase skills gained
Local teachers who had undergone training in Japan will be given an opportunity to share the skills and knowledge acquired under a Follow-up Program organized by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
A Follow-up team from Hokkaido in Japan, will be visiting Fiji from the 18th to 22nd February 2013 to observe ex-participants‟ activities as well as conduct training on teaching aid development.
The 4-member team comprise of Dr Gen Takaku a Professor in Hokkaido University of Education, Mr Yuji Fujiyama and Mr Shinsuke Uchiya both senior teachers, as well as Ms Nozomi Narita of JICA Hokkaido.
During the 4-day visit, the Follow-up team will pay a courtesy call to the Ministry of Education and visit teachers who had undergone training in Japan under JICA‟s “Improving Teaching Methods for Science and Mathematics in Primary Education” Training Program.
The team will observe ex-participants conducting „lesson studies‟ in class and implementing the teaching aids learnt during their training in Japan. As part of the program, the team will visit Stella Maris Primary School in Suva and Namosau Methodist Primary School in Ba.
On Thursday 21st February, a Workshop will be held at the Fiji National University (FNU) Lautoka Campus as part of collaboration between FNU and JICA.
About 30 teachers from selected primary schools in the Western Division will participate in the one-day workshop to develop teaching aids in science and mathematics with low cost and available materials.
By the end of the Follow-up program, the Team hopes to gain a better understanding of the current education system in Fiji and the needs that are to be addressed under JICA‟s Training Programs.
This Follow-up Cooperation Program is implemented by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), as part of the Government of Japan Technical Cooperation program and is possible through the cooperation of Fiji’s Ministry of Education and the Fiji National University.
