Fiji wins last pool match to qualify for Cup Quarters

Fiji still managed to bring a better performance without the presence of Captain Setefano Cakau and Manueli Lagai after winning their last pool match against Portugal, 21-14.

Laqai has been has been handed a 6 week ban after an eye-gouging incident in the opening game against England.

Red Rock’s Jasa Veremalua started on the right track after setting up the first try for Samisoni Viriviri in the first few minutes of the game, 5-0.

Fiji then stretched the lead after Nemani Nagusa scored the second try, 14-0.

Portugal came back after Duarte Moreira scored their first try, 14-5.

Fiji, then led halftime after Joji Raqamate scored another try to keep them in the lead, 21-7.

18 year old, Nuno Guedes of Portugal scored a try but was not enough to give them a win.

The Fiji 7s team beat Scotland 14-12 and England 26-17 yesterday. Meanwhile, in other matches today, Scotland beat England 14-nil, Samoa beat Australia 28-7, Wales beat France 17-14 and Canada thrashed Uruguay 36-nil.

The Cup quarterfinals start 1.52pm today, as Fiji will take on USA.

The Cup semifinals start 7.32am tomorrow while the Cup final will be played at 10.25am.
